Recommended Cabinet Bonding Process

1. Confirm the Joint and Material

Identify whether the application involves a dowel, mortise-and-tenon joint, rail-and-stile frame, edge joint or another cabinet structure. Confirm that both bonding surfaces are suitable for the selected wood adhesive.

2. Control Wood Moisture

Large moisture differences between cabinet components can cause dimensional movement, internal stress and joint opening. Timber should be conditioned for the intended manufacturing and service environment.

3. Prepare Clean Bonding Surfaces

The surfaces should be accurately machined and free from dust, oil, wax, coatings, burn marks and loose fibres. Freshly machined wood normally provides more predictable bonding.

4. Measure the Two Components Accurately

The main agent and hardener should be weighed according to the specified mass ratio. Estimating the ratio visually may create inconsistent curing and water resistance.

5. Mix Until Uniform

Mix the two components thoroughly, including material around the sides and bottom of the container. Prepare only the quantity that can be used within the available pot life.

6. Apply the Correct Amount

Coat the bonding surface evenly without creating dry areas or excessive accumulation. Dowel holes, mortises and narrow joints may require a different application method from wide edge joints.

7. Assemble Within the Working Time

Complete alignment and assembly before the adhesive loses the wetting ability needed to form a continuous bond. Complex cabinet doors and frames should use a formulation with sufficient positioning time.

8. Apply Uniform Pressure

Use clamps, presses or fixtures to maintain close wood-to-wood contact. Pressure should be distributed according to the joint structure and component dimensions.
